St Cecilia's Day
The archdeaconry choirs and the diocesan choir celebrated St Cecilia's Day on 23rd November 2013. The saint's day is officially 22nd November, but the choirs gathered in the cathedral on Saturday 23rd, firstly for a eucharist service conducted by the chaplain to the diocesan choir, Revd. Mqunyana. After the service the close family members of Nomajoni Kauleza, a recently decased choir member, gathered to record her name in the book of remembrance.
After lunch the choirs, all dressed in their choir uniforms, each performed an advent hymn before forming two massed choirs. The choirs from the Standard section performed Oh Thou that Tellest from Handel's Messiah, and the massed choirs of the Large section performed Worthy is the Lamb, also from the Messiah. The massed female voices then sang the Mozart Alliluia.
At the end Mrs. Mzamane, the Bishop's wife, gave a short speech of thanks and congratulations.
